Looking back at some of the commercials created by Home Run Pictures over the years, one particular one stands out for the unique creative approach A spot developed to promote the Hamot Hospital [Erie, PA] and its heart care capabilities invisioned a dramatic tour inside a human heart, but Redhouse's creative director's goal was to avoid a clinical feel. Home Run Pictures' creative director, Tom Casey suggested a painted feel, with brush strokes creating almost a look that could be an impressionistic Van Goph painting.
The animation was first staged using a computer model of a human heart, the beating and heart valves all working realistically. A "flight path" through the inner heart was plotted and stylistic lighting was employed to emphasize the three-dimensionality of the view... color and more importantly contrast added like in an old 1940s motion picture... back when lighting was all they had to work with and did so with great skill.
Several different sequences were then finalized with simple rendering to only output basic color, shading and tonality. Using a post process technique, brush strokes were added making use of the contrast, color and brightness values of the rendering to determine stroke direction and speed of the "brushing." The spot was honored with a Best of Show at the regional Addy Awards for originality and unique message delivery. |
